Donating a car may seem like a confusing and daunting process, but the reality is that it’s very easy.
All it takes is 2 minutes to donate.
Here are the 3 most important questions to ask when you donate a car.
1. Is the charity a 501(c)3 non-profit?
This is important because some car donation programs you’ll come across are not actually charities at all, which means that much of your donation will not be going to the organization you hoped to support.
Also, if you want to claim a tax deduction for your donation, the charity you choose must be registered with the IRS.
You can use the IRS’s free online tool to verify whether or not a charity is registered and tax-exempt.
2. How will the price of my vehicle be evaluated?
According to the IRS, if a charity sells your car for under $500, you can claim the fair market value for up to a maximum of $500.
If the car sells for more than $500, you can claim the full sale price for your tax deduction.
With each donation that we get, the Kars4Kids team assesses the car to determine how to get the most value out of it, ensuring the biggest possible tax benefit for you, no matter the season or the condition of your vehicle.
3. How much of my involvement do you need?
Very often, the hassle of getting rid of a car almost overshadows the hassle of holding onto it.
At Kars4Kids, we pride ourselves on ensuring the easiest, smoothest process for our donors.
All you have to do is give us your car info either by phone or via an online form.
We’ll arrange for your car to be towed away, at no cost to you- you don’t even have to be there at the pickup time!
We also provide you with any paperwork you’ll need throughout the process.
Unless you would like to opt-in to a paperless donation of course.
Make sure to do your research – and happy donating!
